Apple AirTags are awesome little devices to help you find things when they are lost or misplaced. But finding the AirTag inside a busy tool bag, luggage, or backpack is another thing. This little clip-on AirTag holder is designed to solve that problem. Just snap in an AirTag then clip this onto a pocket or other edge to keep it where you can find it.

This is actually a byproduct of something else I am working on… an AirTag holder for people with Dementia. In that project, I am trying to design holders that can be fixed to the clothes of dementia sufferers. The idea is that we need them not to pull it off thinking, “What is this?” and discarding it. But that is taking some effort. So I thought this was quite helpful (at least to me) as I am about to do a little travelling.

This hook-on version could also be used for dementia sufferers but in my opinion, this one is not good enough to be relied upon for our memory-impaired family members.

I know that in some circumstances one might want the AirTag holder to be somewhat hidden and in other circumstances one might want it to be more visible. The idea is that you can print it in a colour to match or contrast wherever you are going to place it.

The design is very simple and relies on a compliant sprung clip incorporated into the body of the holder to attach it to whatever you want. I have made the fit for the AirTag intentionally tight to ensure that it does not fall out unintentionally. And, lastly, I added a small slot for a zip-tie in case there is an opportunity to secure it in place with a zip-tie.

Printing

Functional designs (such as this one) generally require more strength than non-functional designs and more strength than the typical default slicer settings provide, so please review your slicer settings carefully.

This product was designed for a 0.4mm nozzle, a 0.2mm layer height and the following settings:

Wall Line Count = 4 ( 4 x 0.4mm = 1.6mm walls )

Top and Bottom Layer Count = 5 ( 5 x 0.2mm = 1.0mm top and bottom )

Infill = 40%, Cubic

Ironing = OFF (not needed)

Support = No support required

Brim = NO

MATERIAL: PLA or PETG (any material should work fine)

PRINT ORIENTATION: As shown

This simple design is one piece and nothing to assemble. Clip it onto your belt or pocket and go. In the end, I stopped using this design because my dog learned that he could knock it off my waist if he wanted to. I might re-visit this one day with a more robust design.
