<p class="wp-block-paragraph">I conceived of this yesterday, whipped up the design and printed it just so I could continue procrastinating about my accounting and taxes.  In fact, I was working on the segmented XL Lazy Susan and diverted to this for fun (and additional procrastinating).  It was a super fast design because it uses the same dimensional profile as my other Lazy Susan&#8217;s v2.0 with conical bearings.  The only thing I needed to revise was the slope of the conical bearings and the top and bottom bearing surfaces.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">It spins very well but I did need to stick on some little sticky rubber feet to prevent the entire mechanism from spinning on the table surface.  Other than that, print and play!</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">The mechanism requires 16 pin bearings which are organized in a set of 8.  So print it twice.  While it will not matter too much, the pins are designed to be pressed into the pin carrier from the underside (print bedside) and the print bedside should be down when the housings are assembled.</p>



<p class="wp-block-paragraph">The top and bottom housings press together with a snap-fit.</p>



<p class="wp-block-paragraph">I recommend a very light layer of synthetic lubricant on all internal parts.  It moves much more efficiently once lubricated.</p>



<p class="has-large-font-size wp-block-paragraph">Printing</p>



<p class="wp-block-paragraph">I have tried to make my main print settings visible on the Cura screenshot but in case they are difficult to read I have summarized them again here&#8230;</p>

When I first created my Lazy Susan mechanisms I wanted one bigger than my print bed allowed but that seemed too challenging so I ended up settling for 330mm diameter on my 350mm bed.  Simply designing the mechanism became my focus &#8211; the challenge.  But now that I have a working mechanism the idea of making a mechanism larger than my print bed started to seem tackleable. Someone asked me for a 380mm version, and here it is. </p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">This 380mm diameter lazy Susan can be printed on a 220mm print bed!  I feel that is pretty awesome.  It feeds my confidence to tackle more challenges like this and opens the door for designs I could not imagine before.    </p>

<p class="has-large-font-size wp-block-paragraph">The Design</p>



<p class="wp-block-paragraph">To achieve this design, I created a second layer to the top and bottom of the Lazy Susan concept.  These new layers become the mounting frame for the inner layer (the Lazy Susan layer).  Then with all rings quartered and offset 45 degrees from each other, the frames hold the inner layer in place.  </p>



<p class="wp-block-paragraph">With these additional mounting layers the original design height of 9mm increases to 11.4mm which is still quite thin all things considered.</p>



<p class="wp-block-paragraph">The pin carriers are also in quarters but do not connect.  They simply float around inside the Lazy Susan and push each other around as needed.</p>



<p class="has-large-font-size wp-block-paragraph">Printing</p>



<p class="wp-block-paragraph">A minimum bed size of 220mm x 220mm is required to print these parts.  </p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">This design requires no fasteners, hardware or adhesives.  But I do recommend adding a very thin layer of synthetic lubricant.  </p>



<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Try to insert the pins into the pin carrier from the bottom (print-bed side).  And, keep the bottom (print-bed side) of the assembled carrier downward in the completed assembly.</p>



<p class="wp-block-paragraph">When assembling the final quarter of the top or bottom assembly, you will not be able to slide in the part completely.  The final portion should snap into the mounting portion of the assembly.</p>



<p class="has-large-font-size wp-block-paragraph">Future</p>



<p class="wp-block-paragraph">I think I have just about exhausted the whole Lazy Susan thing but there is one more gigantic design I may tackle one day.  I want to make a Lazy Susan that is about 1.25m (~4ft) in diameter for my crawl space.  I have space but it is awkward to access so making an enormous Lazy Susan would be the perfect solution to store more and keep it accessible.  In that case, I would have to print the circumference in 12 or 16 pieces (I am guessing).  And, that would bring some more challenges.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph"><span style="text-decoration: underline;">Original Posting:</span> I was recently working on a thrust bearing for another design (that I will eventually finish) and the bearing came out so well I thought this would make an excellent lazy susan (spinner) for a lot of different uses.  So in classic fashion, I got distracted and here it is&#8230;</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">My first application for it was a charcuterie board to keep the wife amused.  We often just share charcuterie, cheese, nuts and bread on a board with a glass of wine so a rotating board for that is fantastic.  Especially with friends and a larger board.  </p>



<p class="wp-block-paragraph">My second application was a large turn-table for working on my printers.  Being able to rotate a printer on the turn table while working on it brings amazing convenience in a tight space.  The large lazy susan under a small piece of plywood easily supports a 50kg Voron and turns it effortlessly.  </p>



<p class="wp-block-paragraph">I designed 3 sizes and all function extremely well.  They are about 130mm, 230mm and 330mm in diameter each.  The designs do differ slightly as the increased size required an adjustment to design tolerances.  </p>



<p class="wp-block-paragraph">There are no fasteners involved all parts snap in and together but are easily separate for cleaning or whatever.  </p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">The design consists of a top and bottom shell, inside which a pin carrier holds cylindrical bearing pins.  The bigger the diameter the more pins I used (as opposed to changing the pin diameter.  All of these designs use the same pins.  </p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">I printed the body parts in PETG for convenience and printability.  The pins though I printed in ABS for greater rigidity.  The parts could all be PLA I suspect.  But I would not print the pins in PETG as it is too soft (I tried &#8211; I know).</p>



<p class="wp-block-paragraph">I used my relatively standard setup for printing which is a 0.4mm nozzle, 0.2mm layer height, wall count of 4 (i.e. 1.6mm walls), top and bottom layers = 2, and 40% infill.</p>



<p class="wp-block-paragraph">The pins are printed in sets of 9 and you just need to print as many sets as needed to fill a particular carrier.   The pins are tapered at the bottom so you can just snap them off the carrier after printing and use them.  No cleanup is needed.  The pins just push into the carrier (retaining rings) and can be removed if necessary.  </p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">I did experiment with fewer pins, especially in the 300mm diameter design but it was not good.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">I did learn recently that one of my printers was not square and that alone would be a problem for these designs &#8211; especially the larger rings.  Obviously, the rings need to be &#8220;perfectly&#8221; round to rotate freely so it is a good test for your printer setup.</p>



<p class="wp-block-paragraph">I added 4 screw mount holes to the top of each design so they can be attached to whatever you want.</p>
