Welcome to my first attempt at a sequential discovery puzzle. I did not keep track of time but I would guess I have put more than 100 hours into designing this. It has been a labour of love for sure. I have found it very interesting and challenging to create this puzzle using 3D printable designs because that gives almost unlimited freedom to one’s imagination.
I wanted this puzzle to be challenging, fun and “doable”. But, not too easy. It should feel rewarding to complete it. At the same time, I imagine only someone who wants to solve it and finds puzzle challenges interesting will be able to complete it (at least without clues). Based on my initial testing with friends and family, I don’t think too many people will be able to complete it without using any clues in less than 30 minutes or maybe even one or more hours (but I could be wrong and I would like to find out).

After completing the design and through the course of building instructions, notes and clues I asked ChatGPT to estimate the time to complete it by a human and it estimated 30 minutes to 2 hours depending on one’s skill level. And, for what it is worth it, it suggested most children under the age of about 12 will not be able to complete it. I have had a handful of educated adults try it already so I could observe and make improvements. No one has finished it without some form of assistance.
The puzzle has approximately 12 steps to open it. Like most sequential discovery puzzles everything you need to open it is in or part of the puzzle itself. You can not use anything other than your hands and what the puzzle gives you. At any time there is one and only one way to move forward. Parts that you remove from the puzzle may be part of the puzzle solution (i.e. a tool needed at another stage).
I have created a series of clues that can be used if needed. There 3 levels of clues for each step in the puzzle. The first clue level is obscure. The second indirect. and the third is fairly direct. So use them if you need them but rest assured there is a way to move forward at all times. You just have to figure it out. Take your time and enjoy.
The official rules are as follows:
Puzzle Rules
- Hands-Only:
- No external tools or objects are allowed or required. Use only your hands and the tools, keys or elements from the puzzle to solve the puzzle. Every move has a purpose within the design.
- No Excessive Force:
- The puzzle is designed to be solved with gentle manipulation. Do not attempt to take the puzzle apart by force or break it open. If something doesn’t move easily, reconsider your approach. Do not bang, shake excessively, pry, or drop.
- Inspect Carefully:
- Observe and interact with all parts of the puzzle. Pay attention to subtle details—they may hold the key to the next step.
- Keep Track of Removed Pieces:
- Any piece you remove may be essential to solving the puzzle. Set them aside carefully and remember to consider them as potentially part of the puzzle.
- Use the Clues Sparingly:
- Clues are available only if you’re truly stuck. Use them one at a time, starting with the most obscure. But know that there is a way forward at all times.
- Patience is Key:
- Solving the puzzle requires logic, exploration, persistence, trial and error and possibly even guesswork. Take your time and enjoy the challenge.
